Issued to commemorate the upcoming 1996 Centennial Olympic Games in Atlanta, the 1995-P Olympic Cycling Silver Dollar is part of a multi-year, multi-sport commemorative program launched by the U.S. Mint. This Proof edition, struck at the Philadelphia Mint, honors the power, endurance, and focus of competitive cycling, an Olympic sport since the inaugural games in 1896. Each coin contains 0.7734 troy ounces of .900 fine silver and is presented in its original U.S. Mint display box with Certificate of Authenticity.

Historical Insight:

The 1996 Summer Olympics marked the 100th anniversary of the modern Olympic Games and were held in Atlanta, Georgia. To celebrate, the U.S. Mint released an extensive commemorative series between 1995 and 1996, covering over 15 different sports and themes. Proceeds from these coin sales supported the U.S. Olympic Team and Olympic facilities. The cycling dollar was one of the earliest releases in this two-year issue.

Collector Note:

The 1995-P Olympic Cycling Proof Silver Dollar is a prized piece for collectors of sports-themed numismatics, Olympic memorabilia, or U.S. Mint history. With relatively low mintage and strong design elements, it stands out as a dynamic and meaningful coin in the broader Atlanta Games series.
