Why Choose This Coin?
XF (Extremely Fine) Double Eagles offer excellent visual detail at a more accessible price point than higher-grade examples. With nearly a full ounce of gold and clear historical appeal, these coins provide strong diversification for collectors and investors looking to balance gold content with numismatic significance.
Historical Significance
Issued from 1907 to 1933, the Saint-Gaudens Double Eagle was the result of President Theodore Roosevelt's effort to beautify American coinage. Coins minted from 1907-1908 were issued without the motto "In God We Trust", while 1912 and later coins display 48 stars to reflect the addition of New Mexico and Arizona to the Union. The series ended abruptly during the Great Depression, when President Franklin D. Roosevelt issued the Gold Reserve Act of 1934, banning most private gold ownership and ordering gold coins to be returned and melted. This drastically reduced the number of surviving Double Eagles, making circulated examples like this one an increasingly scarce and valuable piece of monetary history.
